#

Stirling City Heritage Trust was officially formed in December 2004, so we are currently celebrating two decades of working in the city helping to celebrate and care for Stirling’s heritage.

Since its inception, the Trust has invested approximately £3.5 million in the built environment of Stirling and repaired around 250 buildings.

In the past year, we have been involved in some fantastic projects which have benefited the Stirling community.

Outreach

Women in Construction

We held two Women in Construction events this year to encourage young women to consider a career in the construction industry. In March, we visited Stirling High School and 40 female pupils tried out slating, stonemasonry, mosaics and signwriting. We followed this with a 2 day build event in October with 12 pupils from Wallace High School and Stirling High School at Bannockburn House. The girls used their new-found joinery skills to build a timber pergola for the garden.

Reminiscence Project

Over the past two years we have been developing resources for people with dementia, working in partnership with Stirling Archives and the Stirling Smith Art Gallery & Museum. Our accessible publication and reminiscence boxes have been distributed to care homes, charities and library services across the Stirling area reaching hundreds of individuals. People have loved looking at the images and sharing stories around the photos in the packs.

Heritage Trails

Our family heritage trail has proved to be incredibly popular and we have had to do a couple of reprints to meet demand! The trail encourages families to look around the historic centre of Stirling and uses David Galletly’s wonderful drawings.

Traditional Buildings Health Check

In 2023, the TBHC celebrated its 10th birthday. The service has gone from strength to strength and we currently have around 160 members, some of whom have been with us since the beginning. We offer owners of traditional buildings in Stirling, Bridge of Allan and Dunblane impartial advice on how to care for their building. The service is highly valued by our members and guides people to undertake repairs in the right way. Since it started, the service has provided 400 buildings inspection reports and supported 565 property owners.

TBHC Retrofit Service

We were awarded UK Shared Prosperity Funding in 2023 and the two-year project was really underway during 2024. We have offered bespoke advice on improving the energy efficiency of traditional buildings to a number of our members and also been assisting community organisations with their buildings.

Building Repair Grants

The Trust offers grants of up to £15,000 to assist people with repairing their older buildings using traditional materials like slate, lead and stone. Over the past year we have repaired roofs, chimneys and windows, ensuring that historic fabric is retained and buildings are in a good state of repair.
