Retrofit Service

Retrofit and Energy Efficiency service

Stirling City Heritage Trust are delighted to have been awarded funding to develop a new project to help traditional building owners in the Stirling area to improve the energy efficiency of their buildings. Stirling Council has awarded the project £168,226 for 2023-25 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The Retrofit project is also being funded by Historic Environment Scotland.

Many older buildings have poor EPC ratings and insulating them can be challenging due to the potential negative impacts on historic fabric. The new Retrofit and Energy Efficiency service will offer a variety of solutions using dedicated, expert staff who will undertake specialist inspections, offer practical advice and there will be a small Retrofit Grant to assist building owners to undertake appropriate retrofit measures.

The subsidised service is open to both existing Traditional Buildings Health Check members and new members.

How will the new service work?

The Traditional Buildings Health Check Retrofit service is a fabric first energy efficiency scheme. Damp buildings are much harder to heat so a ‘fabric first’ approach is important to ensure that repairs are done before undertaking retrofit measures.

Traditional Buildings Health Check members whose building is in adequate condition can commission an Energy Efficiency Report. The assessment will include an EPC assessment and a bespoke report recommending suitable retrofit measures to improve EPC and the energy efficiency of the building.

The new Retrofit Grant will support TBHC members to undertake recommended retrofit measures.

The Retrofit and Energy Efficiency service will be available to book per property rather than per building. If you live in a multi-occupancy building the service will just cover your part of the property.

The Retrofit service is priced by council tax bands and will cost:

Council Tax Bands A - C: £95

Council Tax Bands D – F: £150

Council Tax Bands G - H: £225

The Retrofit and Energy Efficiency service will take a holistic approach to a property and will include

  • EPC Assessment
  • Bespoke Report that includes: your home occupier survey, Thermographic Analysis, EPC Impact Assessment, and recommendations for appropriate Retrofit measures
  • Statutory Consent advice
  • Advice and support throughout your retrofitting journey
  • Access to the Retrofit Grants

To book a Retrofit Inspection you must be an existing member of the Traditional Buildings Health Check. You must have a recent TBHC Inspection Report and have tackled or be in the process of tackling the required Priority 1 repairs highlighted in the TBHC Inspection Report.
