Stirling City Heritage Trust Staff
The Trust is run by the Trust Manager who is supported by a part-time Office Manager, Grants & Outreach Officer and a compliment of three full-time staff working on the Traditional Buildings Health Check.
Dr Lindsay Lennie MRICS IHBC (Trust Manager)
Lindsay is a Chartered Surveyor who has worked with the Trust since 2011. She has an undergraduate degree in Geography and worked for many years as a Chartered Surveyor in the public sector. In 2001, Lindsay gained the RICS Postgraduate Diploma in Building Conservation and in 2006 was awarded a PhD in Building Conservation for her thesis, “The Conservation of Historic Shopfronts in Perth and Perthshire”. Her consultancy business, Historic Shop Conservation, worked with many town centre projects across Scotland. She is a Full Member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) and has an interest in historic tiles, particularly the Scottish firm, James Duncan Ltd.
Lindsay was appointed as Trust Manager in January 2020.
Angela Muirhead (Office Manager)
Angela just newly joined the team in August 2022 after previously working at Forth Valley College for over 15 years in Student Engagement. She has a qualification in Management and Leadership and a real interest in Historic Conservation. Angela has responsibility for looking after the office, accounts/bookkeeping and various other responsibilities. Angela works part-time, Monday to Thursday.
Dr Rachael Purse (Grants and Outreach Officer)
Rachael previously worked at Glasgow City Heritage Trust, after which she won a Historic Environment Scotland and Glasgow School of Art PhD Scholarship to study and work on the Mackintosh Building Restoration Project from 2016-2020. Rachael looks after SCHT’s Traditional Building Repair Grants as well as the outreach programme.
Katharine Allen (Membership & Marketing Officer)
Katharine has a postgraduate degree in Archaeology, specializing in digital technologies. She spent eight years working in the marketing team at Brooklands Museum. Katharine joined the Trust in 2021 and looks after the Traditional Building Health Check membership administration and marketing for the scheme.
Chris Menzies (Traditional Buildings Inspector)
Chris has an MSc Technical Building Conservation from the University of Stirling and Historic Environment Scotland. Previously he spent the past 12 years maintaining, repairing and inspecting traditional buildings as well as having a role as roofing and construction crafts lecturer. Specialising in the external fabric including; traditional pitched roofing qualified at an advanced craft level, an NVQ level 3 in heritage roof slating and tiling obtained whilst on the Prince’s Foundation building craft programme and also is an experienced lead-worker and stone restorer. Chris joined Stirling City Heritage Trust as a Traditional Buildings Inspector in 2023.
Fiona Park (Retrofit Inspector)
Fiona has a MSc in Architectural Design for the Conservation of Built Heritage from the University Strathclyde and a Bachelors in Architectural Engineering. Fiona previously worked in Construction Compliance for Building Regulations 2010 Part L for Conservation of Fuel and Power. She has a keen interest to improve energy efficiency in traditional buildings. Fiona joined the Trust in 2023 as a Traditional Buildings Retrofit Inspector.
Callum McRae (Heritage Trainee)
Callum recently joined the SCHT team as a heritage trainee. He has an honours degree in Building Surveying and possesses a keen interested in Scotland’s traditional built environment.
Stirling City Heritage Board of Trustees
Jim is a retired civil engineer with over 30 years involvement in the construction industry. Jim brings to the Board experience in the design and construction of major civil engineering projects and project management. He has also had responsibility in the capital procurement and project delivery of water and sewerage projects.
Jim has been an elected Councillor for the Stirling North ward for over 10 years which includes Stirling City Centre within its boundaries. He is locally born and has a strong passion for the history and architecture of Stirling, taking a very keen interest in the preservation of the City’s past for future generations.
Jim is one of SCHT’s longest serving Trustees, having been appointed to the Board in 2012 and is currently our Chair. Jim also utilises his wealth of skills as an active member of our Health & Safety Committee.
David is an IT professional and freelance broadcaster who has lived and worked in Stirling since 1989.
His passion and dedication to Stirling’s heritage is demonstrated by his involvement in a number of local groups including Go Forth Stirling (Business Improvement District) and Stirling District Tourism Limited. David was a member of the Mercat Cross and City Centre Community Council for 19 years, including 17 years as Chairman.
David is a long standing member of the SCHT Board, joining in 2007 and elected as Chairman in 2013, stepping down in 2024. David brings enthusiasm and a steady leadership and knowledge of local charities and partnership working to the Trust.
Michael graduated in ‘Building Surveying’ BSc (Hons) in 2009 and successfully passed his professional assessment to become a Chartered Building Surveyor (MRICS) in 2013. He works for a firm of commercial property consultants in Glasgow where he acts as Lead Designer and Contract Administrator for conservation and restoration works to a variety of listed buildings across the UK. He is currently studying towards a Master’s Degree in ‘Building Conservation (Technology & Management)’ at Heriot-Watt University.
Michael was born and raised in Stirling and lives with his wife and children in a Victorian Grade B listed building within the Kings Park area. He is a keen marathon runner and sits as Secretary of Central Athletic Club, one of the largest athletics clubs in Scotland.
He joined the SCHT Board in 2015 and is keen to utilise his professional expertise to safeguard the rich cultural heritage which Stirling enjoys for the next generation. A member of our Traditional Buildings Health Check Steering Group, Michael is an enthusiastic and committed Trustee who brings sound professional experience to the Board.
Michael is a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and an RICS registered valuer specialising in the valuation of residential properties throughout the Stirling district. He currently works with a national firm and undertakes a wide variety of condition and valuation reports for private individuals and lenders/corporations.
Due to the nature of his job, Michael is regularly instructed to undertake survey work on traditional properties in Stirling, Bridge of Allan and Dunblane, and has been involved in some of the biggest residential transactions in Stirling.
Michael joined the SCHT board in December 2021 with an aim to help improve the quality and maintenance of traditional buildings throughout the Stirling district.
Rwayda joined the SCHT board in 2023.
Ed joined the SCHT Board in June 2022. Ed is a resident of Bridge of Allan and has a longstanding interest in the history and architecture of the traditional buildings of Stirling and Bridge of Allan and how these can be preserved for future generations to enjoy.
As well as enthusiasm for conservation and the local area, Ed also has a professional background which complements the experience of the other trustees being a Scots qualified solicitor now working in finance for a major UK bank.
Julia joined the SCHT Board in August 2022. Although not a resident of city, Julia has strong family links to the Stirling & Bannockburn area and a keen interest in the preservation of the city’s architectural and cultural heritage.
As an HR and training consultant, Julia brings a wealth of experience in people management & development and is a member of the HR Sub-Committee.
Andy is a Chartered Valuation Surveyor with over 30 years post-qualification experience. He has, most recently, run the local office of a Scotland-wide firm of residential and commercial surveyors.
In addition to these skills, Andy brings his enthusiasm for and involvement in many local groups to the SCHT Board. He is a member of the Stirling Local History Society and, through this involvement, has co-written a published leaflet on the local architect John Allan, conducted walking tours on the architecture of Stirling and spoken at many local events. Andy is Deacon of the Incorporation of Hammermen of Stirling – one of the seven Incorporated Trades in the City, and is also a member and past President of the Rotary Club of Carse of Stirling and a member of the Guildry of Stirling. All of these organisations promote local traditions and Andy has taken a key role in the revival of the Walking of the Marches in Stirling.
Andy has been a Trustee since 2013. His skills and passion for local history and Stirling’s built heritage make him a valued Trustee and he is currently a member of our Health and Safety Sub-Committee and the Traditional Buildings Health Check Steering Group.
Brian joined the Board in December 2020 with a background of 35 years as a joint founder, partner and director of a well-known architectural practice. His primary interest since student days has been conservation and over the years he was responsible for major repair and conservation projects including The Hill House, Rosslyn Chapel, Glasgow School of Art, St Andrews Metropolitan Cathedral and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.
Brian was a founding trustee of Glasgow City Heritage Trust and chaired its Grants Committee for several years. He has lived in and around Stirling for the past 40 years and has recently worked in a voluntary capacity with a number of local organisations including The Stirling Smith Art Gallery & Museum and The Patrons of Cowane’s Hospital. He remains a voluntary trustee of his former practice (now an Employee Owned Business) overseeing its ethos and culture with no ongoing financial relationship to the business.
The geographic area covered by Stirling City Heritage Trust includes a huge range of both historically and architecturally important buildings and monuments but also the more ’ordinary’ buildings which comprise our built environment and which should be the ongoing focus of maintenance, repair and conservation. Brian looks forward to working with the Trust in continuing to provide support and advice across all categories of buildings which constitute our heritage
Tracy is a Landscape Designer who has lived and worked in Stirling since 2003. While serving on the Mercat Cross and City City Centre Community Council, Tracy spearheaded a number of local projects, such as the Gowan Hill Heritage Trail.
Tracy became familiar with the Trust’s work as a member of the Traditional Buildings Health Check Scheme. As well as having a keen interest in design and architecture, Tracy is able to bring to the Board her practical experiences of living in a city centre tenement with shared property ownership.
